Let’s Fix You Up

I arrive at the crash scene to find marginally controlled chaos. Medics weave in and out of caution signs. Two mechanics stand out front; behind them, metal groans.

I flash my card. “Emergency response. What happened?”

“Speeding. Huge crash involving multiple bodies.”

I can see that. The pile-up stretches across the highway. Legs and hands twitch in the junk pile.

“Young people,” says the second mechanic dismissively. “Always souping up their augmentations. Jetpack legs, centripetal limbs. Fine when you’re messing about at school, but in the middle of the London marathon…”

Sighing I unstrap my toolkit. “Where do we start?”
